Perceptual Motivation for Action

چکیده
Abstract In this paper we focus on a kind of perceptual states that call motivations, is, experiences plausibly motivate us to act, such as itching, salience and pain. Itching seems you scratch, perceiving stimulus salient attend it feeling pain in your hand actions withdrawing from the painful stimulus. Five main accounts motivation are available: Descriptive, Conative, Imperativist, Reflexive Dual Content views. Some these have been developed detail others natural extensions existing However, argue none provides satisfactory account target states. Driven by failings each account, identify three conditions any theory must meet: Direct Motivational Force, Non-Obligatory Force Intention-Independent Influence. Then offer an attempts fulfil conditions: Affordance Model. This model is premised claim involves perception specific affordance for action triggering Automatic Motor Initiations (AMIs). We suggest AMIs can explain motivational force

Motivation and Intelligence Drive Auditory Perceptual Learning
BACKGROUND Although feedback on performance is generally thought to promote perceptual learning, the role and necessity of feedback remain unclear. We investigated the effect of providing varying amounts of positive feedback while listeners attempted to discriminate between three identical tones on learning frequency discrimination. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Using this novel procedure, t...
متن کاملAction-dependent perceptual invariants
Ecological and sensorimotor theories of perception build on the notion of actiondependent invariants as the basic structures underlying perceptual capacities. In this paper we contrast the assumptions these theories make on the nature of perceptual information modulated by action. By focusing on the question, how movement specifies perceptual information, we show that ecological and sensorimoto...
متن کاملPerceptual Anchoring of Symbols for Action
Anchoring is the process of creating and maintaining the correspondence between symbols and percepts that refer to the same physical objects. Although this process must necessarily be present in any symbolic reasoning system embedded in a physical environment (e.g., an autonomous robot), the systematic study of anchoring as a clearly separated problem is just in its initial phase. In this paper...
متن کاملTransfer from action to perception: The effect of motor-perceptual enrichment
This study investigated the effect of audiovisual integration on action-perception transfer.40 subjects were randomly divided four groups: visual, visual-auditory, control visual and control visual-auditory. Visual groups watched pattern skilled basketball player and other groups in addition to watching pattern skilled basketball player, heard Elbow angular velocity as sonification. In first st...
متن کاملAction and motivation: measuring perception or strategies?
It has been suggested that when judging the distance to a desirable object, motivated distortions of perceived distance occur, and that these distortions can be measured by actions, such as throwing a beanbag. The results of two new experiments suggest that reported variations in beanbag performance may instead depend on instructional effects, such as ones that emphasize proximity rather than a...
